DESCRIPTION
Climate change and crisis have become global issues. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change or IPCC (2021), it is stated that humans are the most responsible for the occurrence of global warming and the unprecedented climate conditions that need several years to be returned to their original state. The IPCC also stated that global warming would contribute to the rise of temperature that can surge over to 2°C unless there is immediate action to eliminate the activity of greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, 100 world leaders in Conference of the Parties 26 (CoP26) of the United Nations Climate Change (2021) have committed to ending deforestation. Reforestation, an act of replanting trees, is one of the solutions that can be implemented to support the CoP26, considering the cost and effectiveness that can contribute to encountering carbon emissions in the atmosphere.
Sebumi supports the commitment of CoP26 by initiating a reforestation program called “Wanawasa Project'' with the objective to plant 18.000 trees and contribute to reducing carbon emission of at least 50 tons CO2 emission, with the highest of 18.000 tons of CO2 emission until the end of 2030. Along with that, considering the various targeted locations of the program until 2030, other types of carbon trapping such as mangrove and coral will also be an option. Sebumi will use sustainable collaboration concepts with local partners in each target location to make sure an ideal output can be produced from the program. To increase public awareness of climate change, local community, and volunteers will be involved in the program that consists of planning, planting, monitoring, and assessment.
